On December 14–15, a validation workshop for the trade development program in six CIS countries, organized by the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) and the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was held in Baku.
ITFC Trade Development Program’s objective is to achieve inclusive economic growth and promote regional economic integration, among the CIS member countries and beyond, through increased export opportunities and enhanced competitiveness by considering export-oriented sectoral development and trade initiatives.
The workshop was attended by representatives of the ITFC as well as public and private institutions, sectoral organizations, trade and export regulatory agencies, ministries of economy and trade, and customs service representatives of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
The representatives of UN Resident Coordinator Office in Azerbaijan, the UN Development Program (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the ECO Trade Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum Regional Center for Eurasia (ICYF – ERC), and other institutions also participated in the event.
The Ministry of Economy, AZPROMO, KOBIA, Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control State Service, as well as the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), the State Customs Committee, the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AFSA), and a number of private companies engaged in export were represented in the workshop. International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation delegation was led by Chief Operating Officer, Mr.Nazeem.
The workshop presented the overall detailed design of the Trade Development Program and gather feedback on the activities, their importance and especially the prioritization and sequencing of activities under the Program.
