Job Overview
The Senior Network Engineer (Level 3) is a highly skilled professional responsible for designing, implementing, and managing complex network infrastructures. This role involves leading advanced network projects, troubleshooting escalated issues, and ensuring the highest levels of network performance, security, and reliability. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with networking technologies, a deep understanding of network architecture, and the ability to mentor junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Network Design & Implementation
- Lead the design and deployment of complex network architectures (LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi/Data Center) ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
- Implement and manage enterprise-level routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and other networking devices.
- Conduct network assessments and audits, providing recommendations for optimization.
Network Operations & Maintenance
- Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot network infrastructure for performance issues and outages, ensuring 24/7 network availability.
- Perform proactive maintenance, upgrades, and patches for network systems, ensuring compliance with best practices.
- Oversee the configuration and support of wireless network systems and security protocols.
Security & Compliance
- Implement and maintain network security measures including firewalls, IPS/IDS, VPNs, and other security devices.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (such as ISO, GDPR, etc.) and internal security policies.
- Regularly perform network security assessments and vulnerability testing.
Troubleshooting & Escalation
- Act as the final point of escalation for complex network issues, providing deep-dive troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with internal IT teams and external vendors to resolve critical issues and implement corrective measures.
- Use advanced tools for network analysis (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds) to diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks.
Documentation & Reporting
- Create and maintain comprehensive network diagrams, technical documentation, and standard operating procedures.
- Produce reports on network performance, uptime, and issues for management and stakeholders.
- Maintain an asset inventory for network devices and infrastructure components.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior network engineers, offering mentorship and development opportunities.
- Lead and participate in network-related project teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Stay updated on emerging network technologies and recommend enhancements to current infrastructure.
Vendor Management
- Liaise with hardware and software vendors to assess new products, resolve issues, and ensure that support agreements are met.
- Manage relationships with internet service providers (ISPs) and external consultants.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Certifications:
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or higher (e.g., CCIE)
- Juniper Networks Certified Specialist/Expert (JNCIP/JNCIE) is a plus
- Network+ or Security+ certifications are advantageous
Experience:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior or Level 3 engineering role.
- Extensive experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar enterprise network systems.
- Proven experience in designing and managing large-scale LAN/WAN architectures.
Technical Expertise:
- Advanced knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, QoS, etc.).
- Expertise in firewall technologies (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA).
- Familiarity with SD-WAN, virtualization, and cloud networking.
- Strong knowledge of network monitoring tools and network automation (e.g., Ansible, Python).
