Director of Industry and Destination Development
Azerbaijan Tourism Board (Milli Turizm Təbliğat Bürosu) is a newly established entity under the State Tourism Agency and is national tourism organization. Our core tasks include promoting Azerbaijan as a holiday destination, innovative marketing in the most internationally promising markets and the transfer of our knowledge of guests and markets to the domestic tourism industry. In this way we make an important contribution to the competitiveness of the holiday destination Azerbaijan.
Director of Industry and Destination Development is the senior leadership position within the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB).
Collaborating closely with tourism and hospitality industry stakeholders, the Director of Industry and Destination Development is responsible for relationships with tourism industry partners and focuses on influencing the development and delivery of planning initiatives via local Destination Management Organisations and other stakeholders relevant for tourism development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Evaluates and recommends destination development initiatives that improve tourism industry and leads the delivery of destination development activities.
• Working closely with internal and external partners, ensures that tourism products are developed.
• Represents Azerbaijan Tourism Board with industry stakeholders’ networks and other related organisations.
• Working with external partners and cross-departments ensures public policy objectives are communicated both internally and externally.
• Provides input to policy recommendations that are being developed regarding to destination development issues and opportunities.
• Analyses, leads and participates in the implementation of community-based programs, projects and initiatives.
• Develops programs, policies and procedures to provide the highest level of customer service to tourists to assure smooth coordination of activities among industry partners.
• Develops, forecasts and oversees the Industry and Destination Development’s annual budget and ensures the department stays within the budget while keeping the operations running efficiently.
• Ensures that industry partners are represented at international exhibitions and platforms that Azerbaijan Tourism Boards decided to join as part of its marketing strategy.
Requirements:
• Master’s Degree in hospitality/guest relations or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
• More than 6 years progressive direct industry experience in a similar role with expertise in tourism a key asset.
• Strong network within tourism industry of Azerbaijan – both Baku and regions
• Demonstrated leadership and management experience in a senior executive position of a sales and marketing and/or customer service organization.
• Extensive knowledge of the Azerbaijan tourism industry
• Proven ability to develop long-term strategies and objectives with measurable results within a variety of areas both inside and outside the organization.
• Knowledge with local, provincial and national tourism related issues including the manner in which public policies are developed and resolved.
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills.
• Proven supervisory experience and leadership skills a must.
